How to Prepare for this Procedure

Patients need one day of hospital stay. A minimum of 4 hours of fasting is required before the procedure.

A small tube (endoscope) will be introduced into the windpipe either through the mouth or nose. Local anaesthesia will be given in the form of spray. Mild sedation may be required in some cases.

Despite being an invasive procedure, patients can typically return to their daily activities the day after Bronchoscopy, provided there are no complications.

Patients can usually start taking liquids after 2 hours. They might notice blood-tinged sputum for a day, but blood clots or continuous coughing out of blood should be informed.

Yes.

No, but a tube inside the windpipe can cause irritation and cough.

Yes. These patients need to get a fitness certificate from a Cardiologist as they need to stop blood thinners before the procedure.
